TV Media Weekly | October 28 - November 3, 2017 Sunday morning | 7 By Andrew Warren TV Media Family funnies: There are a lot of family comedies on television, but there isn't another one quite like "Life in Pieces." The CBS sit- com welcomes back the Short family for a third season on Thurs- day, Nov. 2, with a lot of love, laughs and charm as the series keeps its unconventional format. You see, "Life in Pieces" isn't just an empty title for the show; it also describes its format, which is far from typical. Unlike a more tra- ditional sitcom, which typically has a main plot thread for each episode with maybe one or two side stories unfolding, "Life in Pieces" somehow manages to pack four short stories into each half-hour episode. That's one short story for each of the four branches of the Short family. At the head of the clan are Joan (Dianne Wiest, "Law & Or- der") and John (James Brolin, "Catch Me If You Can," 2002), a pair of loving parents and grand- parents who would do anything for their family. Their youngest child is Greg (Colin Hanks, "Far- go"), who struggles with his wife Jen (Zoe Lister-Jones, "Band Aid," 2017) to find a good work-life bal- ance. Their eldest is Heather (Betsy Brandt, "Breaking Bad"), who lives with her husband, Tim (Dan Bakkedahl, "Veep"), and their three kids, while the middle child, Matt ("Thomas Sadoski, "The Newsroom"), has finally married his true love. It's not such an unconventional setup — three adult siblings rais- ing their families while also deal- ing with their own parents — but it's that short story format that re- ally sets "Life in Pieces" apart. Tell- ing four different stories in each episode, with each focusing on a different part of the Short family, gives the show a unique pace when compared to other sitcoms, making this a special show with its own brand of humor. Catch up with the Short family — all four branches of it — when "Life in Pieces" returns for a third season on Thursday, Nov. 2, on CBS. Restaurant revisions: The res- taurant business can be brutal, and no one knows that better than Gordon Ramsay. The globally ac- claimed chef and TV star of the hits "MasterChef" and "Hell's Kitch- en" is a titan in the culinary world, and his home on American televi- sion is expanding its relationship with him. Fox has ordered "Gordon Ram- say's 24 Hours to Hell & Back," an unscripted eight-episode series that's cut from a similar cloth as 10/29 7 AM 7:30 8 AM 8:30 9 AM 9:30 10 AM 10:30 11 AM 11:30 12 PM 12:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 Matt Dicken In Focus Colts Playbook Colts First Down CBS Sunday Morning With Jane Pauley (N) Face the Nation (N) Colts Blue Zone The NFL Today (L) 4 4 WRTV 6 Good Morning America Sunday WRTV News (N) WRTV News (N) This Week Joel Osteen In Touch With Dr. Charles Stanley Carpenter Realtors Indianapolis Week The List 6 6 @ WPTA Good Morning America Sunday ABC21 News This Week Ric Runestad Home Connection Indiana Business Busch Chiropractic James Brown Anger Manage WISH 7 24-Hour News 8's Daybreak at 7 a.m. (N) 24-Hour News 8 (N) Pet Pals Boomer TV VeryVera Kick-Off Outdoorsman Outdoor America 8 8 H WLFI 8 Lucky Dog Open Road (N) In Touch With Dr. Charles Stanley CBS Sunday Morning With Jane Pauley (N) Face the Nation (N) Paid Program The NFL Today (L) D WTHR 12 Eyewitness News Weekend Sunrise (N) Sunday Today (N) Eyewitness News Weekend Sunrise (N) Meet the Press (N) Inside INdiana EPL Soccer Everton at Leicester City (L) 13 13 O WFYI 20 Sesame Street The Cat in the Hat WordGirl Arthur Family Travel Joy of Painting Sewing W Nancy Second Opinion Greener World America Heart.
