New this season, there will be a happy hour on the outdoor patio available with no reservations required from 5 – 7 pm on FRIDAYS only. Rancho Cielo is located at 710 Old Stage Road in Salinas, at the dead end of Old Natividad Road, near the intersection of Old Stage and Old Natividad Roads. A California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Rancho Cielo is a compre- hensive learning and social services center for under- served and disconnected youth in Monterey County who share our vision of their future success. Our goal is self-sufficiency, and the self-esteem it gener- ates, for all young people. Residing on 100 acres and encompassing two ponds, mountain biking trails and a cultivated garden, Rancho Cielo is also a restored piece of Salinas Valley natural history. Removed from the urban neighborhoods that have fostered self-destruc- tive lifestyles, the Ranch provides a safe place to run, hang out and breathe fresh air. It also enables outdoor science education not avail- able on most campuses. We believe every young person deserves to have the choice whether to go to college or go to work--or both. Our students have barriers to success that are not of their own making. While some of them have made bad choic- es, they are oen made due to bad options. Rancho Cielo is testament that our community cares about all of our youth. We are committed to fulfill our vision to transform the lives of disenfranchised youth and empower them to become accountable, competent, productive and responsible citizens. Web photo Estrada wins "It's All in the Sauce" contest The Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee of the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau announced that Greg Estrada, recently retired Cal Fire Battalion Chief, of Watsonville won the "It's All in the Sauce" contest at the 9th Annual Testicle Festival held in Watsonville in Sep- tember. The contest invites attendees to prepare their favorite dipping sauces for everyone to try with Rocky Mountain Oyster appetizers. Estrada's sauce was the favorite among the sauces tasted at the event. Karen Pisturino of Watsonville won the coveted "Best Sauce Name" award with her entry, "Gonad Goo." The festival also held a competitive horseshoe con- test with the winning team of Ricardo Am Rhein and Scott Gorham. All contest winners were presented with plaques memorializing their triumphant perfor- mances. Rocky Mountain Oysters were served as hors d' oeuvres and the sauces were enjoyed and judged by a record-crowd. A full chick- en barbeque was served for dinner, with s'mores made around the campfire, for dessert. The event also included a raffle, live auction and silent auction. Proceeds from the event go to college scholarships, agri- cultural education programs and activities of the Young Farmers & Ranchers Com- mittee. If you haven't tried a rocky mountain oyster, be sure to make plans to attend the 2018 event. Contact the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau Office for more details. They can be reached by calling (831) 724-1356 or via email at sccfb@sbc- global.net. Provided photos Home & Garden Expo MONTEREY, CA.
