Point Lobster Company sells their lobster rolls at festivals, including the Festival of the Sea in Point Pleasant Beach, the New Jersey Seafood Festival in Belmar, and Lobster Fest in Bradley Beach. Godwin says the demand is so great that "it takes several days to pick the lobster meat and several thousand lobsters to meet that demand." A Jersey Shore local since birth, Godwin knows the ebb and flow of the seasons with summer being the busiest time of year for his operation. "From Memorial Day to Labor Day, that's when we see most of our guests buying fish for dinner or getting a bite to eat from our menu," he says. Other items on Point Lobster's menu include crab cakes, hot soup, shrimp cocktail, and fried platters and sandwiches. Every now and then, a delivery to the fish market will yield a rather large lobster that will affectionately be adopted by the staff. "Sometimes we'll keep [a big one] as a pet for a while," Godwin says. He recalled a blue lobster that came into the store about ten years ago, which was the rarest crustacean they ever had in their tanks. Point Lobster Company takes an active role in helping its neighbors by co-sponsoring a yearly fundraiser that benefits one or two local chil- dren. Godwin's wife, Shannon, works with Atlantic Spear and Scuba (also of Point Pleasant Beach), Belmar's Jersey Shore BBQ, and Jersey Mike's to plan the annual event. All proceeds from the "One Day, Two Great Kids" September 2017 fundraiser were shared between a Point Pleasant Beach sixteen-year- old battling Type 1 Diabetes and Leukemia, and a twelve-year-old Point Pleasant boy with autism who is in need of a therapy dog. While it took a few months for Point Lobster Company to completely bounce back after Superstorm Sandy five years ago, Godwin reminisced about his store's role in post Sandy recovery. "We were open the next day and made soup for the clean-up crews and rescue workers for a while after," he said. With the freshest variety of sea- food available, a helpful and courte- ous staff standing at the ready, and Godwin's work ethic and passion, Point Lobster Company has become an icon of the Jersey Shore. —Jill Ocone Point Lobster Company is located at 1 St. Louis Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach.
