TV Media Weekly | October 14 - 20, 2017 8 | Sunday afternoon sixth season, but first it needs to share its fifth. There's only a short wait until season 5's premiere Wednesday, Nov. 29, on History, and by then, production on the next season will already have begun in Ireland. Details on that sixth season are scarce so far — understandably so, since the fifth hasn't even aired yet — but one tidbit that has leaked out is that star Katheryn Winnick ("Bones"), who plays legendary shieldmaiden Lagertha, will be making her directorial debut for one of the season's episodes. As for the much-closer fifth season, two newcomers have joined the cast and will be pop- ping up on the screen. Adam Copeland ("Haven"), who's prob- ably better known by his profes- sional wrestling ring name Edge, and Kris Holden-Ried ("Lost Girl") both bring their talents to the his- torical epic. "Vikings," a favorite with au- diences and critics alike, is a joint Canadian/Irish production that's found love on a global scale. Its Canadian talent has brought home a broad swath of awards and accolades, including eight Canadian Screen Awards. Pretty impressive for a show about his- tory — but what an era of history it is. "Vikings" is inspired by the Norse sagas of the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok and other he- roes as they fight, pillage and conquer their way across Eng- land and France. Season 6 of "Vikings" is al- ready in the works, but season 5 hasn't even begun yet. Catch that fifth season's premiere when it ar- rives in late November. Reinventing Lamarr: Diane Kruger has joined a project to re- turn one of the 20th century's most fascinating actresses to the screen. The "Inglorious Basterds" (2009) star has joined a project from Straight Up Films that's in the early stages of coming to- gether: a miniseries adaptation of the biography "Hedy's Folly: The Life and Breakthrough Inventions of Hedy Lamarr, The Most Beauti- ful Woman in the World." The po- tential miniseries is still very early in development, and doesn't yet have a date or network attached to it. Hedy Lamarr was a film sensa- tion in the 1930s and 1940s, starring in "Algiers" (1938) and "Comrade X" (1940), among other silver screen hits, but it was her activities outside of the film studios that history most re- members. In an era when women were typically consigned to specific fields of work, Lamarr refused to let established gender norms re- strict her natural inventiveness. Her most notable invention was patented in 1942: a system that would allow the radio signals of torpedoes to signal-hop, thus protecting the signals from being jammed by enemy warships. 10/15 1 PM 1:30 2 PM 2:30 3 PM 3:30 4 PM 4:30 5 PM 5:30 6 PM 6:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 NFL Football New England Patriots at New York Jets Site: MetLife Stadium -- East Rutherford, N.J.
