Submitted photo SOUTH MILWAUKEE — A.J. Croce, a bluesman who plays mainly the keyboard, will also play favorites written by his father, Jim Croce, dur- ing a Thursday concert at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. Two Generations of American Music presents a selection of A.J. Croce's own tunes alongside his father's, plus vintage folk, blues, R&B and early rock 'n' roll that inspired them both. Among Jim Croce's songs are "Time in a Bottle," "Operator" and "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown." "My father made heroes out of everyday people," A.J. Croce said. A folk and rock singer, Jim Croce died in a plane crash Sept. 20, 1973, about a year after receiving national acclaim and days before his son's second birthday. "I Got A Name" was released the day after he died. A.J. Croce honed his piano skills as a boy while partially blind. When he was 18, he opened for B.B. King and signed his first recording con- tract at age 19. Today, he strikes a fine bal- ance between paying homage to his father's artistic legacy and injecting the songs with his own spin and personality. He adds a rollicking, New Orleans-flavored piano touch to "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues." ENTERTAINMENT Statement of Ownership, Management, and Circulation (Requester Publications Only) 1.
