The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, September 29, 2017 20 By Kat Mulligan TV Media Spooky stuff: When it comes to paranormal activity, thoughts often drift to haunt- ed houses, abandoned asy- lums and the possessed or de- ceased. It's common to think of a person or place as being haunted, but TLC's latest series reveals the haunting of anoth- er kind of noun: things. The new series "Evil Things," which debuted on TLC on Sept. 15, presents real-life tales of cursed items in ways that make even the softest of teddy bears seem suspiciously spooky. Survivors of horrific, terror- inducing paranormal events have their haunting experienc- es depicted onscreen, from the moment the item entered their lives to the chilling occurrenc- es that led to revelations that these items were the source of pure evil. Though an old pic- ture frame or wardrobe seems a more likely choice as a vessel for the dearly departed, toys, toasters and chairs all have the potential to keep spirits trapped within, or so the sto- ries claim. Back in the tank: Televi- sion's toughest critics and big- gest deal-makers are back for season 9 of the Emmy-win- ning series "Shark Tank," pre- miering Sunday, Oct. 1, on ABC. The series is celebrated for its encouragement of the entrepreneurial spirit in Ameri- cans, who enter the tank with their hearts and dreams on the line, looking for a chance to prove that they have an inno- vative product worthy of a shark's investment. No matter where they've come from, these brave entrepreneurs all have a chance to impress the sharks and get them fighting for a stake in their company. While not every product will have enough merit to warrant an investment, those special ideas that captivate the sharks will see them quickly dive into a bidding war to snag an am- ple share of the venture. Despite their thick-skinned demeanor, the sharks have proven themselves incredibly generous over the past eight seasons, with the total amount in deals now exceed- ing the $100-million mark. The sharks are made up of a di- verse group, including AXS TV mogul Mark Cuban, real es- tate legend Barbara Corcoran, QVC queen Lori Greiner, tech whiz Robert Herjavec, brand- ing and style guru Daymond John, and the venture capital- ist known for his direct, no- nonsense evaluations, Kevin O'Leary. The season also prom- ises to bring in many eager guest sharks. realtalk B/The Pine Shop 6x7.5 www.thepineshoponeonta.com www.thepineshoponeonta.com Serving Oneonta and Surrounding Communities For Over 40 Years NEW FABRIC SAMPLES JUST IN FOR OUR QUALITY UPHOLSTERED LINES The Pine Shop Quality Home Furnishings 5382 St. Hwy. 7, Oneonta (607) 432-1124 Mon-Wed 9-5:30, Thurs & Fri 9-6 Sat 9-5, Closed Sun FALL CLEARANCE on Upholstered Furniture and Amish Dining Room and Bedroom Sets End of Season Clearance Poly Lumber and Wood Outdoor Furniture 25% Off In Stock 15% Off Special Order (Finishing Available) Quality Real Wood Finished and Unfinished Furniture
