Johnson que proclamara la Semana Nacional de la Herencia Hispana, y tiempo mas tarde en 1988, el festejo se extendió a un mes (del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre). Ahora Estados Unidos celebra la cultura y las tradiciones de los residentes en este país con raíces en España, México y los países de habla hispana de Centroamérica, Sudamérica y el Caribe. La razón por la cual se eligió la fecha del 15 de sep- tiembre para iniciar esta celebración, fue que este día es el aniversario de la independencia de cinco países latinoamericanos: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua. Además, México y Chile festejan su independencia el 16 y el 18 de septiembre, respecti- vamente. La comunidad hispana siempre ha contribuido de alguna manera a este país, pese a lo que digan algunos. A través del arte, los hispanos han aportado mucho al panorama cultural de Oklahoma, de Estados Unidos y de todo el mundo. Siendo el arte una forma de expresarnos, tiene sentido que dicha expresión inclu- ya nuestro patrimonio y nuestras tradiciones ya que son parte de lo que somos. La fe, amor, familia, amistades, las fiestas son parte de nuestra esencia como hispanos. Cualquier motivo es digno de festejo, así somos, nos encanta la fiesta y com- partir con las personas a nuestro alrededor. Somos una comunidad que amamos a nuestra familia, quizás pode- mos enojarnos con algún miembro de la familia pero que a nadie se le ocurra hacerle daño porque con todo y el enojo lo defenderemos. Sociales de nacimiento, disfruta- mos conocer a nuevas personas y hacer crecer la amistad. Independientemente de la religión que profesemos nues- tra fe nos une ante cualquier adversidad y para muestra lo que está ocurriendo con DACA ha hecho que comuni- dad nos unamos a seguir luchando junto a estos jóvenes. En Oklahoma durante estos últimos años hemos visto el crecimiento cultural y el aporte dado a nuestro estado a través de personas que se dedican a trasmitir nuestros valores, cultura y tradiciones. La nuevas gene- raciones siguen interesadas en continuar con el legado de demostrar con orgullo nuestra herencia, lo cual nos hace sentir orgullosos. Por esa razón y otras este mes es para celebrar y amar quienes somos. De dejar saber a los demás que no esta- mos aquí para quitarle nada a nadie sino para seguir ayudando nuestra comunidad. Hemos trabajo duro y lo seguiremos haciendo para hacer de este país una mejor nación. La fiesta ya comenzó desde el pasado fin de sema- na y seguirá a lo largo de este mes de septiembre, así que junto a su familia no deje de asistir a los eventos que ven- drán. ¡Que vivan nuestras tradiciones, nuestra cultura y la comunidad hispana!
