The lake is home to a variety of fish including Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, Trout and Walleye. It has a maximum depth of 8 feet. Enjoy a riverside walk or cast off on the new walkway, featuring benches and lighting along the river. Further South down the river, the Grafton Dam also has a beautiful stretch of River perfect for fishing. Lion's Den Gorge Lion's Den Gorge is an Ozaukee County Natural Area on the shore of Lake Michigan in Grafton. There are 3 miles of hiking trails, wetland boardwalks, a giant staircase that descends through layers of cedar forest, a salmon spawning stream, a spacious beach front, a pond, and the deep and verdant ravine. Lion's Den is open from sunrise to sunset throughout the year. Only a 20 minute drive North of Milwaukee, Lion's Den is the perfect wilderness retreat in the metro area. Bird Watching and Fishing Blue-wing WPA Blue-wing Waterfowl Production Area, located on County Road C, is almost 54 acres in size. It's about half wetland and half grassland. Species such as American bittern and green heron share the wetland area with yellow-headed and red-winged blackbirds, while rough-legged hawks and American kestrels fly overhead searching the grasslands for rodents. Other grassland species such as sedge wren and common yellowthroat can frequently be found on the site. Ulao Waterfowl Production Area - Nesting and Migration Haven This 44-acre site lies adjacent to Lion's Den Nature Preserve. Classified as a Leopold Wetland Management District, it is under the ownership and stewardship of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Scoters, loons and most species of ducks can be seen here at different times along with dozens of species of song and water birds. You also may see deer and green herons as you traverse the scenic gorges by bridge.
