Neighbors met neighbors during National Night Out,
with events taking place throughout greater Harrisburg.
e city alone had numerous celebrations in Midtown,
Uptown and Allison Hill, with many suburban
neighborhoods also setting up grills and bounce houses.
In Harrisburg, the Friends of Midtown event at the Broad
Street Market attracted a large and diverse crowd, with
complimentary food, music and fun activities for kids.
While National Night Out began as a way to fight crime,
it seems to have evolved into a celebration of place, a few
hours for people to enjoy being with their neighbors.

CulTuRAl FEST
Market Street came alive with music, dance and
food from a wide variety of cultures during the
annual Dauphin County Cultural Fest. In the
space of a single city block, attendees experienced
everything from Irish step dancing to Chinese
Qipao to rap and soul music. For hours, voices and
drumbeats resonated off of buildings throughout
downtown Harrisburg, and even threatening
summer thunderstorms held off until the event
was nearly done.
