Arendt to Lead Ozaukee Chorus New members invited to join GRAFTON — The Ozaukee Chorus Board of Directors announced the hiring of Doug Arendt as the new director for the Ozaukee Chorus. Former Director Tina Davis stepped down to travel and spend more time with her family. Davis had been with the group for 15 years. The chorus is extremely grateful for the passion, dedication and commitment she gave to the group, according to a press release. Arendt is the current choral director at John Long Middle School in Grafton and has been there for 18 years. Arendt's previous experience with the Ozaukee Chorus is as a soloist at a previous Christmas concert. His middle school choir has performed with the group in the past and he served as the light and sound manager at the Spring Concert in May. "After many years of appreciating the Ozaukee Chorus from afar, I am very excited to be a part of their musical experience," Arendt said. "I look forward to the fulfillment of making wonderful music with this dynamic group of musicians and growing professionally in this new role." Arendt has an extensive background as a choral director and will be starting with the chorus for the fall semester, beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 at St. Joseph School Choir Room, 1619 Washington Ave., Grafton. The Ozaukee Chorus invites anyone interested in singing with the group to join its fall season by attending the first practice of the season Sept. 5. Auditions are not required to sing in the four-part mixed chorus. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. that evening. The chorus meets weekly on Tuesdays, with practices taking place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Christmas concert will be held in early December. Membership dues are $35 per semester to cover the cost of folders and music. The Ozaukee Chorus is a nonprofit group that has been together since 1975. Its mission is to promote the advancement of vocal music education. Net proceeds from the choral engagements are presented as scholarships every spring to one student from each high school in Ozaukee County who is further pursuing musical education. Since 2008, the Ozaukee Chorus has awarded more than $58,000 in scholarships. For information, visit www.ozaukeechorus.org.
