I'm going to the kitchen and make some good eats. The recipes I'll share are from Advent Lutheran Church's "ADVENTures in Cooking from the North Carolina Foothills" cookbook. Clever title - good recipes. Old Fashioned Apple Pie Turn the oven on and set it at 400º. When I was a little boy, our next door neighbor taught me that "apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze!" I never forgot that and so today I'll be making an Old Fashioned Apple Pie from RUTH HOPPER'S recipe and think of him. He was a school principal. 5 apples; 1 1/2 cups sugar; 1/2 stick butter; 1/2 tsp cinnamon; 1 tsp vanilla; 2 (9'' deep dish) pie crusts. Wash apples (peel, remove core), slice and cook in sauce- pan with a little water (4 tsp water will do) until done. Mash apples, add sugar, margarine, cinnamon & vanilla. Mix well. Cook completely. Pour into 1 pie crust, cover with the other pie crusts. Use fork on edges to shape and cover edges with aluminum foil. Stick fork through top of pie to make air holes. Bake at 400º for 30 minutes, or til golden brown. I hope you enjoy it. This is PATTY BRENZ'S recipe. This pie is a crowd pleaser and so easy to make. 1 cup cold milk; 1 - 3.4 ounce pack- age of instant vanilla pudding; 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; 2 cups Cool Whip, thawed; 1 6-ounce graham cracker pie crust; 2 medium firm bananas, sliced. Layer bananas on crust. Mix first 4 ingredients and heat until thick, about 2 minutes. Pour over bananas and chill for 2 hours. Quick and easy also no bake. Next, I'm going to make a delicious Banana Cream Pie. Banana Cream Pie Best Brownies Ever! is CAROL RAE GREEN'S recipe for Best Brownies Ever! 1/2 cup butter; 1 16-ounce can Hershey's chocolate syrup; 1 cup sugar; 1 cup flour; 4 eggs. Mix all ingredients together and pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 375º for 25 minutes. Cool to warm. FROSTING: 6 tablespoons but- ter; 1 1/3 cup sugar; 1/3 cup milk; 1 6-ounce package of chocolate chips. Boil butter, sugar and milk for 1 minute. Add chocolate chips. Frost brownies. Cool and cut into squares. You talk about good! These brownies are just great. Sometimes I add walnut halves on top of the frosting. How can I ever bake without making some brownies.
