ENTRY DEADLINE is Noon, Tuesday, July 18 • 2017 MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police are requesting the public's assistance in tracking the man who killed a 53-year-old Oconomowoc woman in a Jan. 31 robbery. Karen Simek was heading to her employer, Garden Fresh Foods of Milwaukee, when she was robbed and shot around 5:40 a.m. that day in the 700 block of South 12th Street. The murder was believed to be random with the motive being the bag that was taken from Simek, Milwaukee police public information officer Sgt. Timothy Gauerke told the Post. The department is describing the suspect as a black male with a light com- plexion, 20 to 27 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 7 inches, between 140 and 150 pounds, with a short Afro- style haircut. Surveillance video of the man from area businesses leads police to believe he either lives in or frequents the area of Cesar Chavez Drive to 27th and Pierce streets to Greenfield Avenue. Gauerke said some wit- nesses have told the depart- ment they saw the man walking in the area. The department also is still seeking Simek's bag. It is described as a gray or tan women's canvas travel or tote bag made by Duluth Trading Company. The bag has a front zipper pocket and a zipper closure main compartment. It is about 13 inches wide and 15 inches tall. The department is asking anyone with information to call 414-935-7360. Simek's husband, Kevin Sasse, previously told the Post that he and his wife had moved to Oconomowoc in 2003. Both grew up in Waukesha County. — Post Staff Photo courtesy of Milwaukee Police Department The Milwaukee Police Department released a photo last week of a man suspected in the Jan. 31 murder of Karen Simek of Oconomowoc in the 700 block of South 12th Street while she was headed to work at Garden Fresh Foods.
