This construction of the frame was done as Lanser's Eagle Scout community service project. The frame is now complete and is a welcome addition to the trail. Grant is a scout from Troop 129 in Spindale and had been looking for a project to take on to earn his Eagle Scout rank. Eagle Scout is the highest rank you can receive in the Boy Scouts and very few scouts receive this rank. To qualify, the scout has to come up with a plan for a project that benefi ts the community, organize it, raise necessary funds to complete the project, and recruit any professionals needed for assistance. Lanser is 17 years old and has been a Boy Scout for 5 years. He wanted to do something to benefi t outdoor recreation, so when members of Rutherford Outdoor Coalition reached out to him and told him about the frame that needed to be installed along the Rail Trail, he gladly took on the project. The frame is now complete and is a perfect replica of the frame next to it. Both frames are modeled after the Spindale House located across the street from the signs. The signs offer helpful information about the Rail Trail, as well as other recreational spots in Rutherford County. The frame for the other sign was constructed by another local Boy Scout, Tyler Moore , back in 2012. Lancer would like to thank Stonecutter Foundation, Henson Building Materials, Caleb Lanser, William Lanser, Roger Byers, Lucas Barker, and Kenny Barker for their contributions to the project. This is a young team and thankfully most of the kids will be back next year to compete, but we need more. Archery is a sport anyone can participate in. Archery scholarships handed out by various schools and private organizations is on the rise. Scholarships exceeding 2 million dollars were distributed to North Carolina high school students during the state tournament. TJCA has an opportunity to expand the sport and open doors for young archers to advance to the collegiate and potentially, the Olympic level.
