After a successful first sea- son that saw 16 men and women compete for a $250,000 prize in one of the hardest competitions on television, Fox brings back the hurt when season 2 of "American Grit" premieres Sunday, June 11, on Fox. John Cena doesn't put these competitors through hell all by himself, though. A panel of military vets dubbed "The Cadre" are there to push the competitors along and help them in their gruelling tasks. Former infantry drill sergeant John Burk, U.S. Marine Riki Long, ammu- nition technician Chloe Mondesir and Green Beret Grady Powell will work with each respective team to help them prepare for the chal- lenges ahead. Each episode begins with com- petitors making their way through a series of challenges called Evolu- tions. Each challenge is based on military trials that are both physi- cally and environmentally gruel- ling. The winning team's members are all safe from elimination, and the three remaining teams must choose a member to compete in the Circus. The Circus consists of an obstacle course challenge, fol- lowed by an endurance test, and it continues until someone quits, fails the endurance test or becomes physically unable to go on. That person is then sent home. Last season, one of the chal- lenges consisted of competitors carrying a 120-pound log through three miles of forest, and then tak- ing it through obstacles without touching the ground. Intense Evo- lutions like this are a mainstay for "American Grit," and are sure to be just as tough this season. Find out just how tough it is when "Ameri- can Grit" returns Sunday, June 11, on Fox. 'Dance' the night away: It tru- ly is the season of competition shows, and longtime mainstay "So You Think You Can Dance" returns Monday, June 12, on Fox. Now in its 14th season, the show has seen tons of dancers jive their way to the top to win the $250,000 grand prize and earn the title of "Ameri- ca's Favorite Dancer." This season sees the return of the Tamale Train herself, Mary Mur- phy, to the judges panel. Alongside her are producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe and guest judge Vanessa Hudgens, with Cat Deeley return- ing to host.
