No,not the end of the world (al- though it might as well be,from some fans' reaction) ‚Äì it just so happens the acclaimed series' ninth season is also its last. Airing Monday nights,the trav- el and food series has been a fix- ture on the Travel Channel since it debuted in 2005.The Emmy award-winning series has covered more than 60 countries and 716,000 miles (or roughly 28 trips around the world),as Bourdain brought global cultures to the at- home viewer by immersing him- self in the local culture and cuisine. Its popularity also led to Bour- dain's second Travel series,"The Layover,"which debuted last year. It's actually rather fitting,then, that the last season has been dubbed "The Final Tour."The farewell tour will take viewers from one side of the world to the other and back again,with a final stop in an area that has long been known as a melting pot for the di- verse cultures that have come to America:Brooklyn,N.Y. Back in May,it was announced that Bourdain was joining CNN as A new season of "Anthony Bourdain:No Reserva- tions"is already up and running,having pre- host of an upcoming weekend program covering food and travel. The idea of hosting three shows is- n't unheard of,but when you con- sider that he also heads his own publishing line,writes for the HBO series "Treme"and makes ap- pearances on other shows includ- ing "Top Chef,"it's not surprising that Bourdain would look to pare down his busy schedule ‚Äì and re- duce some of the travel that would be involved.And with sev- eral successful seasons under his belt,Bourdain undoubtedly hoped to have "No Reservations"go out on a high note without running the risk of becoming formulaic. Bourdain fans might take comfort in the fact that the pro- posed format for the CNN show doesn't look to be far from the "No Reservations" model.In an interview with L.A.Weekly, Bour- dain indicated that he'll be work- ing with the same production team and camera crew, but that the destinations will just likely be tied to past or current news sto- ries (in keeping with CNN's posi- tion as a worldwide news organ- ization, after all). But that's looking ahead to 2013.Let's get back to the pres- ent.True to form,Bourdain isn't letting the series go out with a whimper.So far,the season has featured Bourdain's stops in Austin,Texas,for the 2012 SXSW Interactive Film and Music Festi- val,and a visit to Sydney,Australia.
