May 2017 , TEHAMA - THE MAGAZINE 23 In 2012, organizers combined Recycle the Warmth with another event called Project Homeless Connect. The group searched for an umbrella name to help describe what it was, even through times of growth and change, while preserving individual project names and functions. The result was LIFT Tehama, an acronym for Live Inspired For Tomorrow. It turned out to be a great move, as everyone involved is working toward the same goal and dedicated to helping the poor, homeless, helpless, and hopeless. There are dozens of different tasks required for this event to roll out just right, and everyone has different abilities and talents to offer — fold clothes, pray, collect hangers, transport clothes, get the word out, and serve meals. This project provides volunteers an opportunity to live and share their faith. They do it because people are cold. The founders of Recycle the Warmth, Wayne and Senia Owensby, have handed the reins of this project to the capable hands of Gary and Gloria Carcione as well as Rose Cardenas, who will continue to expand and improve the project well into the future. The next event will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. November 17 at the Tehama District Fairground. The need for volunteers is great. If you would like to be a part of Recycle the Warmth or LIFT Tehama in any capacity, call Cardenas at 528-7339, or visit the Facebook page.
