Tehama County Museum
A community's most treasured artifact
By Laurie Dana
"35,000 bricks for sale," read an ad in the Red Bluff Daily News
in anticipation of the demolition of an old building in Tehama,
California. The ad caught the eye of a small group of local
history enthusiasts who anguished over the impending doom
of a significant landmark in the area's culture since the 1800s.
They vowed to save the building that had served as Tehama
County's first Court house, a school for 21 years, a Masonic
Hall for 116 years, and briefly as a church. The group formed
the Tehama County Museum Foundation to preserve the
building as a museum of local history.
