May/June 2017 NewsBeat 23 MEMBER NEWS Schneps Communications buys Long Island Press other and son business partners Victoria Schneps-Yunis and Joshua Schneps purchased Long Island Press from Morey Publishing, in April. M Victoria Schneps-Yunis founded Schneps Communications in 1985, launching the weekly Queens Courier from her living room. Josh joined the company in 2001, and in 2011 the company began its expansion into Brooklyn. The company now includes 15 newspapers and magazines, websites, and an events business. Long Island Press was a print newspaper for more than 10 years, converting to digital-only in 2014. The news site boasts an award-winning editorial staff, two of which will remain with Morey Publishing. Managing editor Timothy Bolger will become editor in chief of the news site. The Schneps' have not ruled out reviving the print product. The newspaper will maintain offices in Stamford and Schoharie. The Mountain Eagle was owned by Johnson Newspaper Corporation's Columbia Greene Media for 16 years prior to the sale. The newspaper is printed by the Daily Gazette, Schenectady. T MidHudsonNews.com, a digital news site published by Statewide News Network, Inc as accepted for membership at the April board meeting. Hank Gross is the publisher of the site, which covers Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Columbia, Ulster, Sullivan and Orange counties. GreaterLongIsland.com, comprising two digital news sites published by Michael White, were accepted for membership at the April board meeting. The sites, greaterpatchogue.com and greaterbayshore.com cover those communities and the surrounding communities.
