take a moment, pause, and think about
how far we've come.
Food-wise.
For many years, legend has it, there was
nothing to eat in harrisburg except for a
hot dog from the Spot. that may be an
exaggeration, but point taken—this city
was to fine dining what the Susquehanna
river is to deep-sea fishing.
today, people actually drive long distances
to chow down at dozens of great places in
harrisburg. take that, 1995!
indeed, restaurants have become a huge
attraction for the city, one of the key
ways we lure in visitors and get them to
depart with millions in disposable income
each year. People may no longer spend as
much on such things as music, books and,
ahem, newspapers, but clearly they're
willing to pony up for that great meal at
Note, rubicon, the Millworks, Café Fresco
and Cork & Fork.
So, join me in our month-long celebration
of good food and drink, which is the focus
of our May issue. take a trip around the
world, cuisine-wise, without ever leaving
the city; meet the women who are
reshaping the dining (and drinking) scene
in harrisburg; sample the best beers from
our area's rapidly expanding roster of
fabulous craft breweries.
Once your tummy is full, poke around the
other sections of theburg. the culture
scene in central PA keeps on growing—
music, art, theater—which means our
coverage has, too. We even have a few
pages devoted to this month's important
primary election, in case you're still
pondering which candidates are worthy
of your vote.
it's May—one of the best weather months
of the year. On those lovely, warm days,
i'll be outside for sure, stopping at the
broad Street Market for lunch, going for a
run in riverfront Park, catching a Senators
game, ending the day with stroll over to
Zeroday. i hope you'll join me in getting
out and enjoying all this city has to offer.
