There would be some who would say that the world's greatest need is love. Others would say that our utmost need is peace. What does the world need? A great leader, the eradication of poverty, a cure for cancer and perhaps many other important needs could be discussed. Before a correct answer can be found, one must study the plight of the human condition. According to the holy scriptures, all of man- kind is lost. The Apostle Paul writes in the book of Romans that there is none good and that we all have fallen short of God's standard of righteousness (Romans 3:10, 23). Due to the sinfulness of mankind, there have been great atrocities acted out upon undeserving victims. Millions of men, women and children have been tortured, starved and brutally mur- dered in the name of some cause or ideology. We would shudder to mention the millions of innocent unborn babies who have been murdered in the womb. Our world is plagued by addictions to drugs, alcohol, immorality, greed and hedonism. To put it lightly, this world is in a moral downward spiral. The frailty and brevity of life also begs for an answer. All of us are just one breath or one step from death. We are all terminal, but just don't know when it will happen. The unpre- dictability of life and death unsettles us as we pick up the paper and read today's obituaries. So what does the world need? What the world needs has already been provided to mankind by God Himself. He sent His Only Son into this world over two thou- sand years ago and on a Roman Cross He died for the sins of mankind (John 3:16). By his death and resurrection, He provided eter- nal hope for all who suffer from a fallen world. He is the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings, the Bread of Life and the Great Physician. He is all that the world needs. He is the Savior of the world!
