SPRING 2017 / HEALTH & WELLNESS DIRECTORY 4 By Andrea Fencl Freeman Staff WAUKESHA — Healthy choices can mean positive changes for individuals' lifestyles and their relation- ships. Tim Mikulance, personal trainer with ProHealth West Wood Health & Fitness Center, supports couples looking to work out and eat healthier together. "It makes it easier if people are eating similar foods and if they have similar interests and goals in life. It helps," Mikulance said. He added that there is a different dynamic to training couples versus training indi- viduals. "They push a little harder during the sessions. If they're at home they're eating better and making better choices. Having that support system is huge," Mikulance said. "A lot of times people come in for training with short goals, but couples come in with long-term health goals in mind." Mindy and Greg Millen have trained with Mikulance for almost two years after health problems caused Greg to gain weight. "Greg initiated one-on-one training and then Mindy got more involved," Mikulance said. The Millens said they try to work out once or twice a week. "It's a proven formula," Greg Millen said. "It leads to a healthier lifestyle," Mindy added. "A lot of our friends don't work out or can't, so we have each other to keep us going." The Millens said they don't do much to diet as they've always been healthy eaters. "Mindy and I were never junk-food people," Greg Millen said. "It's about moderation and mixing exercise with mod- eration." The Millens claim that the exercise helps their balance and prevent osteoporosis but Mikulance believes exercise has helped in other regards. "Greg and Mindy are a fan- tastic couple," Mikulance said. "They have a positive attitude and I can see that the healthy choices has made the relation- ship stronger for them." Mikulance's advice to prospective couples looking to become healthier: "Don't be afraid of taking the first step to changing your lifestyle," he said. "Stick with your partner on it. There will be times where you don't want to (work out) but push through it." The Millens said that the path to success is paved by consistency and accountability. "There's times I don't feel like going and he spurs me to go and there are times where he doesn't want to go and I spur him," Mindy MIllen said. "There's days when it's gray and cloudy out and I don't feel like going," Greg Millen said. "But we always feel better when we do."
