Port Washington Visitors Guide 5 Welcome to historic Port Washington, Wisconsin! On behalf of our proud resi- dents and business partners, thank you for visiting, vacationing, residing, or doing business here. Whatever brings you to "Our Home Port," you will find much to love and many reasons to come again … or stay and make us "YOUR Home Port!" Our 2017 Visitors Guide is your guide to fun and activity in Port Washington. • Take advantage of our 36 city parks, especially Upper Lake Park (including Possibility Playground), Veterans' Park, Rotary Park and Coal Dock Park, all located immediately along picturesque Lake Michigan. • If you enjoy biking, challenge yourself at the outdoor Bike Adventure Park or the rolling hills of the Interurban Trail. • If bird watching is your pleasure, "Our Home Port" is perfect for you; we are proud of our "Bird City" designation. You'll encounter great bird-watching opportunities, especially in our nature preserves or the We Energies Migratory Bird Preserve along the lakefront. • Beautiful, expansive beaches offer numerous recreational choices – including boating, swimming, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, kite-flying and running. • Our pedestrian-friendly city lends itself to strolling from shop to shop in our Downtown Business District. Enjoy a unique dining experience, or take a walking tour of our historic architecture. We are a very walkable community! • Be certain to visit our Historical Society's "Port Exploreum," which opened in 2015 and celebrates our city's special historical and cultural connection to Lake Michigan in a fun and interactive way! Lake Michigan provides a perfect backdrop for Port Washington's many festivals and events. Memorial Day weekend brings our Main Street Program's "Community Street Festival," a great kickoff to summer in Port. The first weekend of June, our community gathers along the lakefront for our unique commemoration of "Pirate Fest" with a wide array of family-friendly activities, including a parade, a run/walk event, games and other revelry. July boasts our famous "Fish Day," now celebrating over 50 years as the world's largest one-day outdoor fish fry. Our City welcomes a new event to Coal Dock Park the first weekend in August – "Badger Brews & Que" – that will provide a unique, competitive barbeque environment (and of course plenty to eat and drink!) We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Paramount Music Association, as they present their renowned "Paramount Music Festival" at Coal Dock Park during Labor Day weekend. We also proudly continue our partnership with Discovery World Science & Technology Center, bringing the magnificent tall ship Denis Sullivan to Port Washington for four extraordinary public sail engagements. Throughout our city, I am confident you will find an impressive array of high quality products and services. We have so much of which to be proud – and we are privileged to share it with you!
