TV Media Weekly | March 18 - 24, 2017 By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: Two shows that I've thor- oughly enjoyed these past few years are "TURN: Washington's Spies" and "The Last Ship," but I haven't heard anything about them recently. Will they be re- turning? A: The news on your two shows is sort of good and great, respec- tively. To start with, both are spring- summer shows, which is why you haven't heard much about them lately. And also, to start with, they'll both be coming back this spring- summer. However, that'll be it for "TURN: Washington's Spies." When AMC renewed the show for a fourth sea- son, it was clear that would be its last. Series creator Craig Silverstein chose to look on the bright side of that news. "I am so pleased to be able to bring the story of the Culper Ring to its epic conclu- sion, at the point where the revo- lutionary war ends and the great American experiment truly be- gins," he said in the official an- nouncement of the renewal (and cancelation). No date was announced with the news, but all three previous seasons ran from April to June, so this one will likely do the same. As for "The Last Ship," the news is unambiguously good. Not only has it been renewed for a fourth season, to air this June, but it's al- ready been renewed for a fifth as well. This might sound like an enor- mous vote of confidence from its broadcaster, TNT, but apparently this was actually a budgetary deci- sion. The two seasons will shoot at the same time, which is faster and cheaper than doing them sepa- rately. Of course, TNT doesn't mention that little detail when enthusing about the show. "We look forward to watching the cast and produc- tion team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons through summer 2018," said Sarah Aubrey, TNT's executive vice-president of original programming. There are so many varieties, each with its own unique aroma, with textures rang- ing from creamy to crumbly and tastes that run the gamut from nutty to sharp to smooth and to mild. Well, it looks like Food Net- work's five perennially sunny Sat- urday morning personalities can agree with me about this one, with the Saturday, March 25, epi- sode of "The Kitchen" focusing entirely on the good stuff: cheese. The weekly talk program's hosts are almost too cheerful some- times, but that's exactly what makes it such great weekend tele- vision. As part of their celebration of all things cheese, "The Kitch- en's" hosts share some of their favorite cheesy recipes. Jeff Mauro's ("Sandwich King") ulti- mate cheese enchiladas are something to make family Mexi- can night anything but dull, while Sunny Anderson ("Cook- ing for Real") shows off her se- crets for making perfect cheesy cornbread muffins with jalapeƱo glaze. Even actor/chef David Burtka ("How I Met Your Moth- er") stops by to share one of his cheese-covered favorites: a four- cheese pizza that's better than anything you can get from the local pizza joint. In this kitchen, though, it's not just about sharing recipes and cooking tips: food and fun always go hand in hand, and remaining hosts Geoffrey Zakarian ("Iron Chef"), Katie Lee ("Beach Bites With Katie Lee") and Marcela Val- ladolid ("Mexican Made Easy") aren't about to let this Saturday be a dull one. Together, all five hosts take the classic grilled cheese sandwich to the next level for what will no doubt become the next Olympic sport: a stringy and melty grilled cheese pull contest! The kitchen helpline is also open to help out viewers with their cheesiest ques- tions, and there's so much more planned as well. "The Kitchen" is currently in its 12th season, and if there's one thing that's helped it stand out in a crowded talk show landscape, it's the warmth and chemistry be- tween its hosts. Geoffrey, Katie, Sunny, Jeff and Marcela are all cheesing it up in the kitchen Sat- urday, March 25, on Food Net- work.
