www.negociosnow.com February 2017 45 City Clerk, City of Chicago Anna Valencia, a longtime public servant, was appointed to fill the Chicago City Clerk vacancy, replacing Susana Mendoza, who is now Illinois comptroller. Among other functions, the Office of the City Clerk is responsible for many of Chicagoans' day-to- day inte- ractions with the city, including overseeing the sale of vehicle stickers and residential zone parking permits; collecting, docketing, and securely storing city records; and administe- ring the city's KIDS ID, Medical ID and Dog Registration pro- grams. The office will also adminis- ter the mayor's municipal ID program, a significant and con- crete demonstration of the city's commitment to ensure that vul- nerable populations, including undocumented immigrants, young people, homeless indi- viduals, the formerly incarcera- ted and the LGBTQ community have access to critical city servi- ces. Valencia began her career with the City of Chicago as an assistant to Mayor Emanuel as a part of the Legislative Coun- sel and Government Affairs team. Since then, Valencia has built an impressive career as a seasoned Illinois political pro- fessional, serving as campaign manager for U.S. Senator Dick Durbin's re-election campaign, senior advisor for Mayor Rahm Emanuel's re-election cam- paign, deputy director of the Illi- nois Senate Democratic Victory Fund, a communications staffer for State Senate President John Cullerton, and field director for both Mike Quigley for Congress (IL-05) and Gary Peters for Con- gress (MI-09). Valencia grew up in Grani- te City, Illinois and earned her bachelor's degree in internatio- nal studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
