The reception will open with remarks by library director, Carol Wilson, on Wednesday, August 1st, at 6:30 pm in the Genealogy – Local History Room. Civil War era music will be provided by the Log Cabin String Band and light refresh- ments will be served. In observance of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War (1861-1865), the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncculture.com) has organized the Freedom, Sacrifi ce, Memory: Civil War Sesquicentennial Photography Exhibit to travel the state from April 1, 2011 through spring 2013 as part of its commemoration (www.nccivilwar150.com). Everyone over the age of 6 months is encour- aged to be immunized. Seasonal flu is most deadly for very young children and senior citizens. The 2009 H1N1 flu disproportionately affected middle-aged adults and young people. The vaccine is safe and effective and the best way to prevent the flu. Why should we celebrate the commemoration of the Sesqui- centennial of the War Between the States? August 21, Tuesday, 7:00 pm In his program, A Cleve- land County Citizen Goes to War, author Mark Hughes, uses photographs taken during the Civil War to tell the story of a young Confederate soldier who enlisted in the fi rst unit raised in Cleveland County, NC. Many of the photographs in the program were used in Hughes' latest book, The New Civil War Handbook: Facts and Photos for Readers of All Ages. Hughes will autograph copies of his books after the program. August 28, Tuesday, 6:30pm The movie Civil War Ghosts will be shown in the large Meeting Room. It focuses on paranormal and spiritual activity at three Civil War sites: Get- tysburg's Farnsworth House, occupied by Southern sharp- shooters; Mississippi's McRaven House, a fi eld hospital dur- ing the Battle of Vicksburg; and Tennessee's Chickamauga battlefi eld. The vac- cine is free of charge for children 18 and younger who have Medicaid, do not have insurance or are underinsured (mean- ing insurance does not cover the flu vaccine). The vaccine will also be free for uninsured (non-Medicaid) pregnant women 19 and older who are serviced by the health department, anyone attending a NC college or university, and anyone who is a close contact to an infant 6 months or young- er. If you meet this criteria and have insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, a $15 administration fee will be billed. If you do not meet the above criteria or do not have insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, the charge for the vaccine is $30. We also have available a limited number of the high dose flu vaccines for those 65 and older. Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid can be billed for this vaccine or the cost is $46. • Stay home if you are sick. You should stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone, except to get medi- cal care or for other necessities. Your fever should be gone without the use of fever reducing medicine.
