Stagecoach Trail • Polkville, NC BODY SHOP DeRisi FISHING REPORT The Kosa retirees fished Lake Wylie last week with Dean Champion and Fred Wright getting the win with a catch of 12.0. John Black and Roger McNeely took second with 11.55. Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christainberry brought in 7.95 and settled in third. Big bass of the day was a 3.50 largemouth brought in by the team of Champion and Wright. This week the old-timers will hit Lake Norman from 6am til 12 noon. Moss Only eleven boats battled the storms last Thursday on Moss Lake for the weekly event. Arnold Ledford and Brent Shytle got the win with 3.0. Walt Brysick and Greg Hunter had 2.25 and were second, with JR Garland and Ronnie Beason coming in third with 1.56. Big bass was a 3.0 largemouth brought in by Ledford and Shytle. Arnold says it started storming shortly after blast-off and was pouring during the weigh-in. Bass Casters The Bass Casters club fished Lake Norman last weekend. Randy Scarborough brought in 10.5 and took the win. Jared Ward was second with 8.14 and just over a pound back, with 7.12, was Tom Gavin. Terry Knight had 7.5 and was fourth and rounding out the top five was Mark Swink with 7.2. Randy Scarborough had big bass of the night with a 3.15 largemouth. The Bass Casters will fish Lake Hickory on September 30. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at brucecamp@carolina.rr.com. TITLE THE E-MAIL STORY OR PICTURE "FOR SHOPPER" OR I WILL ASSUME IT'S JUNK MAIL AND NOT OPEN IT. Outdoor Truths By Gary Miller Scouting for the upcoming deer sea- son is in full throttle. If you're hunting fa- miliar property this might be as simple as making sure nothing signifi cant as happened to the area to impact your deer's regular travel corridor. But most likely it will involve fi nding out about where the food is; namely the acorns. And sometimes it's not enough to fi nd one oak tree; it might be that just over the hill there is a whole ridge full of them and this is perhaps a better place to see more deer. It takes lots of information in order to come up with a good game plan. I used to think that one could sim- ply hang a tree stand in any part of the woods and he would see deer. I thought it was good enough to fi nd a trail and set up somewhere near it. I hardly ever con- sidered that perhaps my part of the trail was only inhabited at midnight. I didn't realize that while it might be good to fi nd one sign of deer in my area, it was better to fi nd several signs. It might be good to fi nd a well-worn trail, but what if I could fi nd a well-worn trail, in the middle of an oak fl at, and deer droppings scattered throughout, with a few trees with rubs on them. Now that's where I'm putting my stand! I fear, however, that many of us settle for the fi rst place we come to because we see, what we consider to be, enough evidence to hunt right there; while just around the corner is the real You Wreck It, We Fix It. BEST PRICE OF THE YEAR! Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ place to be. I also believe this happens in church life as well. Just to be honest, it bothers me that there are so many bad churches. As a result, many people don't attend one because they assume this is just the way "church" is supposed to be – ir- relevant, boring, behind-the-times, and full of preachers who use the pulpit for their own personal soap box. It is the equivalent to nothing less than road rage cloaked in spiritual verbiage. (I know, I guess I'm on my own soap box now) The reason it bothers me, however, is because it gives true spirituality and the true church, and even God, a bad name. And this ought to make anyone who is a Christian mad, because true spiritual- ity and how church is really meant to be, and God Himself, is anything but boring, irrelevant and behind-the-times. Yes, my friend, you need God and you need the church. Don't assume that just because you are struggling to fi nd the signs that the real thing is not there. Just keep scouting. You will eventually fi nd the per- fect place to hang your stand. And when you do, you'll be glad you looked a little deeper or traveled a little farther to get to the place you always knew existed. www.outdoortruths.org COME SEE THE EXPERTS y Rd.d STK#120172 NO DOC FEES! 2012 FORD FUSION SE 24,765 OUR PRICE $ 19,820 828-245-1626 565 Oak St., Forest City Monday-Friday 8am-6pm • Saturday 8am-3pm Check Out Our Inventory at www.SiskFord.com Plus tax & tag.
