6 Red Bluff 2017 Tehama Country Visitor Center The Tehama Country Visitor Center at 250 Antelope Blvd. held its grand opening in 2013, and it hopes to usher in an era of tourism to Tehama County and surrounding areas. The visitor center, which was built and is operated by North Valley Services, offers motorists passing through Red Bluff a chance to get a taste of happenings in the county and out. The 5,000 square foot visitor center also provides vocational opportunities for those with disabilities. The visitor center aims to highlight local businesses and products. "We built upon the foundation laid out by the Branding Project and incorporate ideas from the community," CEO Lynn DeFreece said. The visitor center is fitted with interactive exhibits as well, such as a quiz that tests people's knowledge of agriculture throughout the county. The center is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. e Sacramento River Discovery Center The Sacramento River Discovery Center is open for short visits of a few hours, or extended tours with guided lectures at a small fee that must be pre-scheduled. Most of the research and displays at the center have been created by students and the community. People from many diverse agencies and organizations, representing a broad-based community effort, came together to create the Sacramento River Discovery Center to promote understanding of the balance between the river, its watershed and the community. The 488-acre site is an outdoor classroom at the Red Bluff Recreation Area and offers walking trails through native habitats such as a riparian forest, flowering grasslands, wetlands and oak woodlands. Locals appreciate the center for annual events like the Watershed Celebration, featuring a 5K and 10K run/walk and children's activities, held the third Saturday in May. There are also numerous community projects that the center encourages such as the high school's Regional Occupation Program, the summer camp from mid-June through the first week of August and the artwork that's for sale inside the center. The visitor's center is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center contains educational displays and hands-on interpretive displays. The center also hosts monthly evening programs and an annual dinner meeting. The center is at the end of Sale Lane, two miles south of Red Bluff. More information is available at 527-1196.
