ONE NIGHT FOR ONE DROP
RETURNS TO ZUMANITY
THEATRE FOR ITS FIFTH
ANNUAL ALL-STAR BENEFIT.
One Night for One Drop is the
philanthropic spectacle for
which the city's Cirque du Soleil
productions go dark to lend
their acrobats, aerialists,
dancers, and clowns to benefit
One Drop, the international
nonprofit organization dedi-
cated to providing access to safe
water. But the message for this
fifth annual performance, say
Zumanity performers and writer/
director team Nicky and Laetitia
Dewhurst, has broadened. "We
wanted to make the show not
only about water, but the issues
facing the planet as a whole,"
Nicky explains. A vintage circus
theme provides the conceit, in
which an old ringmaster
(humanity), who has abused his
assistant (the earth) is taken back
in time to be taught a lesson.
With its simpler but focused
elements of clocks, timekeepers,
and cogs, you'll leave with the
urgency and resolve of prior
years—but, says Nicky, with a
glimmer of hope. New York-
