Conley News Service MILWAUKEE — The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission announced the adoption of VISION 2050, a long-range plan for land use and trans- portation in southeastern Wisconsin. The plan has been developed over three years and "establishes an advisory long- range vision for how the seven-county region can build on its strengths while also addressing key challenges, such as demo- graphic changes in the labor force and neg- ative net migration," a news release from the organization said. "VISION 2050 provides a compelling vision for how our region can develop, and maintain and enhance its transportation system to increase the quality of life for res- idents and attract new growth to Southeastern Wisconsin," said SEWRPC Executive Director Ken Yunker. While it created the plan, SEWRPC con- sidered existing and historic land use and transportation system development and performance, the release said. ELM GROVE — A video captured by an Elm Grove police squad dashcam shows the night sky early Monday illuminated in shades of blue and green — and just as dramatically, a golden ball with a tail streaking across the sky. The officer inside the squad was just one of many people who were caught by surprise around 1:25 a.m. Monday by a meteor that went over Lake Michigan and was seen by people in several states. Besides Illinois and Wisconsin, there were sightings in Indiana, Michigan, Iowa and other states as well as in Canada. Elm Grove Assistant Police Chief Jason Hennen said the officer who cap- tured the meteor on video felt at first it might have been a transformer that exploded, but then after shining her squads spot- light realized that it was further away. When the officer saw the lit-up sky, she hit "record" and the camera then record- ed the previous 30 seconds, as well. Hennen said it's interest- ing to be able to catch a sur- prise meteor like that. The brilliant meteor, accompanied by a boom that shook houses, was regarded as a historic sight- ing. Conley News Service MILWAUKEE — New numbers released by Core- Logic Home Price Index and HPI Forecast show that home prices are up both year-over-year and month- over-month in the metro- politan Milwaukee area, a news release said. In Milwaukee, Waukesha and West Allis, home prices — including dis- tressed sales — increased by 2.7 percent in December 2016 compared with December 2015. Also, on a month-over-month basis, home prices decreased by 1.3 percent in December 2016 when compared to November 2016, the release from CoreLogic said. Nationwide, home prices increased 7.2 percent year- over-year in December 2016 compared to December 2015 and also month-over- month by 0.87 percent com- pared with November 2016. "As of the end of 2016, the CoreLogic national index was 3.9 percent below the peak reached in April 2006," said Dr. Frank Nothaft, chief economist for CoreLogic. "We expect our national index to rise 4.7 percent during 2017, which would put homes prices at a new nominal peak before the end of this year." The CoreLogic HPI Forecast shows that home prices will increase by an estimated 4.7 percent from December 2016 to December 2017. The CoreLogic HPI Forecast is a projection of home prices based on a number of eco- nomic variables.
