TV Media Weekly | February 4 - 10, 2017 By Adam Thomlison TV Media Q: What will happen in March when "Once Upon A Time" returns? A: "Once Upon a Time" has been on mid-season hiatus since December, slated to return Sun- day, March 5, but the show's creators, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, have been kind enough to offer some hints of what's to come. For those who aren't familiar with it, the show draws on char- acters from the Disney cannon, putting them together in a sin- gle, sprawling story — as such, its plot details will sound like ut- ter nonsense to you. Just go with it. The biggest additions to the first half of season 6 (which aired last fall) were Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz, "South Beach"), Jasmine (Karen David, "Gala- vant") and Jafar (Oded Fehr, "Covert Affairs") — from, of course, the 1992 animated clas- sic "Aladdin" — and, though they seemed to exit the show in the mid-season finale in Decem- ber, Horowitz told Entertain- ment Weekly that they would be returning for the second half. In that mid-season finale, it was revealed that one of the major villains in the second half is Gideon (Giles Matthey, "True Blood"), the son of Rumple (Robert Carlyle, "Trainspotting," 1996) and Belle (Emilie de Ravin, "Lost"), who is apparent- ly fated to kill Emma (Jennifer Morrison, "House"). ABC released a 30-second promo for the upcoming semi- season, which revealed quite a bit. For example, it tells us that August Booth (Eion Bauley, "Ray Donovan"), better known as Pinocchio, will return. It also flashes a close-up shot of a huge engagement ring, suggesting an upcoming wedding. PopSugar. com's Kelsie Gibson speculates it will be between Emma and Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue, "The Clinic"). Have a question? Email us at questions@tvtabloid.com. OK, so maybe that's not the best chil- dren's nursery rhyme, but any- one who keeps up with the ec- centric British culinary icon knows that it's not far off the mark. His co-judge, Christina Tosi, first joined him on screen in 2015, but Ramsay's been judging the enormously popular "Mas- terChef" cooking competition on Fox since 2010. Disc jockey Shaun O'Neale of Las Vegas won last year's season 7, holding up well under the constant scrutiny of the pair, and now it's time for a host of new home cooks — signifi- cantly shorter ones — to impress the decorated and award-win- ning chefs. "MasterChef Junior," the pint-sized culinary spinoff, fires up the ovens of its fifth sea- son Thursday, Feb. 9, on Fox. The best chefs between the ages of 8 and 13 that could be found across the country all come together for a brutal cook- ing competition, and there are 40 of them in all — the most of any season of "MasterChef Ju- nior" to date. Under the watchful eyes of the "MasterChef" kitch- en's resident grown-ups, the kids compete in a series of culinary challenges that most adult home cooks would struggle with. These challenges are often once-in-a-lifetime events for the pint-sized home cooks. Whether they're cooking up a full meal for dozens of first responders, mak- ing a vegan dish for "The Big Bang Theory's" Mayim Bialik or serving one of the best-known "chefs" in the world — "The Muppets'" own Swedish Chef — the amount of talent that these kids put on display is a wonder to behold, even for peo- ple with years more experience in a kitchen. Ultimately, one of the kids will rise to the top and be chosen as the winner. The reward is enough to set them up for years to come: a whopping $100,000 prize, not to mention the recognition that being a culinary prodigy brings. Fox's slightly smaller version of its flagship cooking competition gets underway Thursday, Feb. 9.
