58 | theburg | 10.16 58 | the burg | 09.15 MLK DAy OF SErvICE Brooms, buckets and brushes were the instruments of choice for central Pennsylvania's annual MLK Day of Service. Many towns in our area held an event or two to improve and beautify schools, parks and streets. An interfaith ceremony at the Hadee Mosque began the day in Harrisburg, followed by hours of painting, scrubbing and sweeping at about a dozen different sites in downtown, Midtown, Uptown and Allison Hill. If your neighborhood looks a little cleaner and fresher, you may have the day's small army of volunteers to thank. PA FArM SHOW Large crowds flocked to one of our area's biggest annual events—the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Relatively good weather helped boost attendance for the yearly tribute to all-things agricultural, such as livestock competitions, produce displays and rodeo skills contests. is year, the duckling slide and chick hatch were back, and visitors eagerly huddled around those displays. As always, the food court attracted long lines of hungry patrons, many grabbing a frosty milkshake to wash down their sandwiches, salads and burgers.
