I never think of Greg without a smile. He has the greatest sense of humor on the planet! It is a privilege to know him. I'm fortunate that he invited me to join Rotary...one of the better things I have done in my life. I hope and pray that even though he is retiring from publishing, he doesn't retire from our community. We need his intelligence, his sense of humor, and most of all his kindness (with some musical talent thrown in for good measure!). Sharon Russell __________________________ Greg has been very passionate about the progress the Red Bluff community. He has invested his time in many local organizations to help see them thrive. He provided great leadership in the Chamber as a Director and especially as the Chair. I think the best is yet to come for him! Dave Gowan __________________________ Based on association, Greg ought to be considered an acquaintance but I consider him to be a friend, squirrel! I am proud to be asked to participate in his eulogy, (Ha!). From being a customer at the HeartFelt store to playing his rag tunes at the Veteran's Appreciation Breakfast, to (squirrel!) working on Beef 'N Brew, Greg never skips a beat in being honest, forthright, funny and positive. And Greg hear my words, (squirrel!) your job in Vietnam was needed and valuable and I thank you for your service there, here and now. Your are loved and appreciated. Irene Fuller ________________________ Greg, I'm going to miss that amazing wit and sense of humor. Your smile can light up a room. I've loved working with you on the Chamber Board and I thank you for having the confidence in me to be Chairperson aer your reign. Man, that chair was heavy! Enjoy retire- ment my friend. Lisa Hansen While I've always enjoyed Greg's optimism and ability to adopt Tehama County as his own, I was delighted to hear him play the piano! Who knew our publisher could tickle the ivories! Kathy Garcia __________________________ To anyone who cares, I am pleased to be able to join the six or eight people who will be- grudgingly take the time to congratulate Greg on his retirement. Greg and I have few things in common other than our age. e fact that he looks so much older is likely attributable to the stressful nature of peddling papers for a living, along with the realities attached to being folliclely deprived. Fortunately, that is his problem, not mine. As for positive comments, (I am only being polite because that is a nice thing for me to do) Greg has proven to be a wonderful addition to the Tehama County community. While I admittedly know nothing about how to run a newspaper (I kind of doubt the Greg does either) I have nothing but respect for Greg's sense of community. Not only did he report "the news", he worked hard to promote positive programs taking place in Red Bluff and Tehama County. e support of the Daily News has been key to the success of the State eatre project and we shall be forever grateful. Greg also wondered into the Rotary Club a decade or so ago and has been instrumental in revitalizing a club that at the time was not sure if it wanted to live or die on the vine. As difficult as it is for me to say, in a community that doesn't easily accept short time outsiders Greg Stevens sort of feels like "one of us". Enough with the compliments. I very seldom give them and I am guessing Greg Stevens seldom receives them. As for retirement, I am more than confident that Greg knows exactly what he will do to fill his time. Billie and I will look for Greg, his piano and his monkey with his tin cup playing away for Chiclets on a street corner next time we go to Cozumel. Have a great retirement Greg…Travel safe!!! Bill Cornelius __________________________ #yellowbird is is a man who can think quickly on his feet, prefers the deep end to the shallow end of the pool and has a heart of gold. His creative mind matches his sensitive heart which can camouflage his critical thinking mind. I wish you all the best, many glasses, I mean bottles of wine, and look forward to your increased invest- ment in volunteerism in our community. PS the only man who gets away with calling me "kid". I love you man! Kristin Behrens _______________________ Breaking News! Sources say Publisher Greg Stevens announces his retirement aer a remarkable 81-year stint as Publisher at the Red Bluff Daily News. at would make the old fellow at least 1001, but he doesn't look it. Stevens commented dryly, "Christ, I thought they'd put me out to pasture years ago, but they were too tight fisted when it came to retirement pay." Asked regarding his retirement plans, he said he had been contacted by the Trump people to serve as the Media Czar in Trump's Cabinet, but wanted to meet with the sonofabitch first. "He may mean well, but he doesn't trust the media and the media doesn't trust him. On the other hand, money talks...and I may not get any more Publisher offers. e News did offer me a janitorial position. It paid more, of course, but a man has his pride. I was thinking of staying on in some honorary position just so I could continue to hang out with the Rotary crowd, but some of them are older than me! Trump may not be the answer, but we sure as hell thought he was the problem. Maybe I should throw in with the 65% of the County that voted for the oaf. Perhaps the Tuesday columnist...whatshisname...wasn't so off- the-wall aer all. at said, I shall miss reading the Minch I Say column. I'll suggest they keep him on. It doesn't cost us anything...and he pisses off Letters To e Editor writer Les Wolfe when he has to read stuff from the liberal elite. -- Robert Minch SPECIAL EDITION Publisher retires aer 45 years. Turn over to read. Friday, January 13, 2017 My fondest memories with Greg were simply our conversations. His gi for weaving stories into ex- amples, then providing a metaphor to further state his meaning, was nothing short of genius. Greg's creative nature and jolly spirit always leaves me happy; that is authentic giing. Perhaps my fondest memory with Greg was our brainstorm conversa- tion for the Inaugural Balloon Rally event – Ribs, Rods and Rides – somehow we managed to spend more to pontificating the odd carnivorous nature of the classic graphic of pigs eating ribs. I will never look at this iconic rib cook-off graphic the same, and when I do, I'll fondly remember Greg Stevens. Kate Grissom
