(No, not Santa, although I saw him too.) My happy interviewee is Bill Schubert, owner of Schubert Theaters. I went to see the improve- ments he'd made recently in his Hartford location. Bill has spent his entire working life in theaters. His first high school job at age 16 was as an usher in the Marcus theaters in Menomonee Falls. "How did you like that job," I asked him. "We dated for ten years and we've been married for 25," he said. "Our second son was born while I was doing all that commut- ing, and I realized I was miss- ing too much. I spent six entire weeks in Buffalo during that period. So I land- ed a job with Wildwood Theaters, a chain of four the- aters all in Wisconsin. That was about 1998. I still man- age one of them for the owner. Anyway, they had an office in Hartland, and one day as I was driving there, I passed this theater and saw a for-sale sign. My boss at Budget helped me finance purchasing the business. Two years ago, I bought the Luxury 10 in Beloit from the Wildwood chain. The other theater I still manage is in Janesville, so that's not as much commuting." When he purchased the Hartford theater in 2009, it had eight screens. "That was just about the time that the Continued on page 8 In Good Taste with Sheryl Popp Bill Schubert relaxes in one of the new recliners in the Schubert Theater in Hartford. Now, if only he was watching his all time favorite movie, The Godfather II!
