NegociosNow NegociosNow www.negociosnow.com 4 Diciembre 2008 4 Diciembre 2016 Instituto to Launch Retail Pathway to Build Career Ladder for Low-Skilled Workers C hicago.- Instituto del Pro- greso Latino (Instituto) is launching its new career pathway in the retail industry, geared towards assisting limited- skilled, limited-English adults gain the training they need to be suc- cessful in their positions and move up the career ladder. The pathway, slated to begin its first cohort in Jan- uary 2017 aims to strengthen Chi- cago's retail industry by providing training free of charge that meet the needs of Chicago area employers. Career Pathways are a sequence of education and training program- ming, paired with support systems and aligned with employer needs that allow individuals with limited education to gain the skills and cre- dentials needed to enter and suc- ceed in a given industry. Instituto has built a track record of success pioneering and deliver- ing such pathways in its commu- nity, primarily in the Nursing and Manufacturing industries. In each case, Instituto engages industry rep- resentatives to help guide the cre- ation of the curriculum and ensure the skills training meets the needs of area employers. Thanks to a grant of $1.2 Million provided by the Walmart Founda- tion, Instituto will bring its exper- tise in workforce development and career pathways into the retail sec- tor to build a solution that strength- ens fundamental retail skills and allows workers to improve their per- formance and qualify for higher- paying positions. Curriculum will focus on strengthening English lit- eracy, numeracy, computer skills, customer services, and more. Currently, the retail industry employs 13.3 million entry-level workers nationwide, and 5.3 million of these workers do not have a high school diploma or GED. 12% of all job openings are in the retail industry. The industry has a wide variety of positions that provide a high quality of life while requiring less education than then a bache- Airbnb announces scholarship for Mujeres de HACE, Women's Leadership Program C hicago, (HINA)- The His- panic Alliance for Career Enhancement's (HACE) annual Mujeres de HACE Holiday brunch invited program alumnae and interested participants to cel- ebrate women leaders in the com- munity and announce its partner- ship with event sponsor, Airbnb, to offer a full scholarship for HACE's 2017 women leadership program in Chicago. The event drew over 85 emerg- ing women leaders and execu- tives and hosted a discussion on Latinas and the economy, entre- preneurship and networking and giving back. Three Mujeres de HACE alumnae were recognized for exemplifying the Mujeres de HACE mission to grow profession- ally and support others to do the same. The award recipients are Lizette Arias, Senior Compliance Officer, Johnson Controls, Wendy Mann-Flores, Sr. Procurement Specialist-Team Lead Contracts, ComEd and Adriana Diaz, Com- munications Specialist, The Trust for Public Land. "Adriana, Lizette, and Wendy have gone above and beyond in achieving personal success while ensuring they are actively support- ing the success of others," Patri- cia Mota, HACE President. "This is exactly what the HACE mission and with this award recognition, it is my hope that their stories employees to participate. Olga Camaro, Chair of HACE, made remarks about the impor- tance of rising women in the cor- porate world by leveraging the Mujeres de HACE program. The program is not only a resource to advance our career, it also pro- vides leadership competencies for women to become leaders at home, in the community, and to start up their own business. Airbnb's announcement of offering a full scholarship for a woman to participate in the pro- gram in 2017 is aligned with their mission to provide economic opportunities for individuals and promote diversity in the Airbnb hosting community.
