In the end, the Milwaukee County official who heads up election- related issues is confident the out- come will remain the same. Since the beginning of the month, an estimated 130 poll workers across the county are c o m b i n g through the 440,000 ballots cast by resi- dents in the city of M i l w a u k e e and its surrounding 18 suburbs. The widely publicized effort is linked to Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, who through a fundraising effort fronted the $3.5 million cost of employing poll workers and covering other asso- ciated incidental costs. State statutes allow recounts at taxpayer's expense in close elec- tions. Stein garnered 1 percent of the state's vote total, where Republican President-elect Donald Trump beat out Democrat opponent Hillary Clinton by 22,000 votes. County Clerk Joseph Czarnezki said his office is taking every step possible to ensure the integrity of the recount is upheld. The ballots are being recounted electronically at the city of Milwaukee's Election Com- mission warehouse in Bay View. At press deadline, there were not any reported irregularities within the county, though there is a caveat. Unlike the other 71 coun- ties across Wisconsin, Milwaukee County is handling the recount in a different manner, namely because of the city of Milwaukee and its size. The Wisconsin Elections Commission, which is posting daily updates on the effort, is plac- ing a disclaimer on the daily updates, explaining why initial numbers within Milwaukee County might vary from the origi- nal vote totals to the recount as As county counts 440,000 ballots, clerk expects same outcome See RECOUNT on Page 16 Absentee ballots not counted yet causing variation from previous presidential tally December 17-18, 2016 Show Hours: Sat. 9am-5pm // Sun. 9am-4pm Admission: $2.00 (includes FREE entry for 40" flat screen TV) Shop a Large Variety of Vendors.
