But in 2017, discussion of MetroGo, a new pilot program, could pick up steam after county and municipal officials have backed the effort. At its core, MetroGo is designed to spur economic activi- ty by increasing bus routes and other mass transit options to underserved portions of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Kerry Thomas, executive direc- tor of MetroGo, an advocacy group, discussed several upcom- ing pilot projects Monday at an Intergovernmental Cooperation Council of Milwaukee County meeting in Cudahy. The 19 mayors and village presidents serve on the ICC alongside County Executive Chris Abele. The ICC in September agreed to participate in MetroGo's plan- ning efforts, and the County Board followed suit a short time later. In the months ahead, Thomas said MetroGo is shepherding two pilot projects that will provide new or enhanced mass transit routes to the Menomonee Valley area of Milwaukee and along por- tions of Brookfield's main com- mercial corridors. "There's been a real renewed interest in having a regional dis- cussion about (mass transit)," Thomas said. "We're looking to solve some of the problems that exist on a r e g i o n a l level."
