SANTA CRUZ SENTINEL FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2016 LIVE IT UP! 5 H olidays are a time of celebration with family and dear friends. But when we have lost someone special, our world loses its celebratory qualities. Holidays may only magnify the loss. Hospice of Santa Cruz County has prepared a variety of ways to support our community and we invite you to join us or share this information with a friend or neighbor who could benefit. Interfaith Memorial Service Take a moment to pause from the busyness of the season to remember a beloved family member or friend who has died. We'll hold the sadness and joy that come with this remembrance through candle lighting, music, and words of support. Bring a photograph or object of your loved one for our remembrance table. We especially welcome children and families to this event. Wednesday, November 16th at 7pm - Resurrection Church, 7600 Soquel Drive, Aptos. Grief and the Holidays Support Groups Weekly groups that focus on preparing for the holidays begin in November. Holiday Drop-In groups are also available. Here are some things that may provide some comfort: • Accept that you have limitations this year. This is not wrong. It just is. • Look carefully at your priorities and determine what is truly meaningful for you. • Let others support you through the holidays. • Give yourself permission to let go of the "shoulds" and "have tos." • Be honest and clear. Tell people what you DO want to do for the holidays and what you DON'T want to do. B Y C I N D I G R A Y
