As it turned out there was more than the expected states participating. A total of 24 states and the District of Columbia were represented in this magnifi cent inaugural competi- tion. Athletes competed in either the sprint or draft-legal races. It all happened on Saturday, March 31. The start time was at 8 a.m. when the Men's Collegiate Sprint began. This was a 500 meter swim, a 22 kilometer bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run. At 8:05 a.m. the Women's Collegiate Sprint got underway with the same guidelines. Because so many members of the general public wanted to be a part of this fi rst-ever event, at 8:15 a.m. the General Public Sprint was thoughtfully in- cluded. At 10 a.m. the Men's Collegiate Team Draft-Legal began.
