My name is Adri- enne Wise, and I am now the editor of this wonder- ful publication for arts and entertainment in Oneonta and beyond. July 28, and Sunday, July 29, at 22 artist studios. Read more about it on Pages 12 and 13. You may have seen my name in here before, as a movie reviewer (I kind of have a soft spot for Harry Potter) and television columnist (I kind of have a soft spot for, well, everything television related). And although my name never appeared on them, I've also been the hand behind the coming events and calendar sections of The Scene. also is our Artist of the Month, Esther de Jong. The appeal and splendor of our area brought de Jong here from the Netherlands to paint and write poetry. Learn about her and her journey on Pages 6 and 7. I like it that way. When I was given an op- portunity to be editor of The Scene, I was slightly weary of the challenges it presented. Becoming the face and voice of a publication so well- conceived and thoughtfully created by my predecessor, Cassandra Miller, is a daunt- ing task. Hopefully, I can live up to her high standards and continue you to bring you the best in arts and entertainment the area has to offer. This month is no excep- tion, as this part of the world seems to be awash in artistic expression and creativity. Our main focus is the inaugural AMR Open Studios Tour, featuring those little engines of artistry, the inde- pendent painters, sculptors, furniture makers, weavers, clothing designers and more in the communities and sur- rounding areas of Andes, Margaretville and Roxbury. The event runs Saturday, The hills are literally alive with the sights and sounds of art in the summer here. And it gives me great pleasure to share them with you, along with the distinctive opinions of our columnists — including the return of Laygirl Fash- ion by Emily Popek and a new natural food section by Marguerite Uhlmann-Bower — and other features. Get out there, and enjoy the bounty of beauty and talent our area has to offer. I know I will. If you would like to be a part of The Scene as a colum- nist or you have an event or exhibit to share, don't hesitate to email me at editor@otown- scene.com. Adrienne Wise is the new editor of The O-Town Scene, as well as associate manag- ing editor for The Daily Star and a pop culture fanatic. Contact her at awise@ thedai- lystar. com.
