The biggest new shows and the most popular returning ones usu- ally premiere in September and October, and the amount of hype and money that the networks pour into promoting them is un- paralleled throughout the rest of the year. CBS has given a promotion to a show that spent the first two sea- sons of its life as a mid-season re- placement. "The Odd Couple" first premiered in February 2015, and its sophomore season landed in April of this year. The third season of the laugh-out-loud comedy has moved to the fall premiere season, and it kicks off Monday, Oct. 17, on the eye network. Matthew Perry ("Friends") and Thomas Lennon ("Reno 911") star as a pair of college buds who grew apart over the years as their lives went in different directions — that is, until both of their wives left them. The duo ends up reuniting and getting an apartment togeth- er, but it soon becomes clear that their very different ideas about what it means to be a good room- mate haven't changed much since their college days. Perry's character Oscar is, to put it bluntly, a slob, a seemingly per- fect foil to Lennon's Felix, who is a total neat freak. And that's far from their only difference. Oscar has been loving the freedom that being newly divorced gives him, while Felix is jealous and resentful of his ex's newfound happiness. Lindsay Sloane ("Horrible Boss- es," 2011) stars as upstairs neigh- bor Emily, who is attracted to Felix, and Yvette Nicole Brown ("Com- munity") plays Dani, Emily's friend and Oscar's assistant on his sports talk radio show. Despite the lack of critical ex- citement when it got its start, it probably isn't too surprising that "The Odd Couple" has grown into a comedic hit. It's the sixth screen adaptation of the 1965 Broadway play, after two Hollywood movies, two other TV series, and even a Saturday morning cartoon. The slob and the neat freak re- unite in the third season of "The Odd Couple," premiering Monday, Oct. 17, on CBS.
