JERSEY SHORE IMAGES
WINTERTIME ALONG BARNEGAT BAY, continued from page 75
Above: Red Fox. Island Beach State Park.
I had envisioned this image for a long time. When it snows, I love to head to Island Beach. The challenge
was to find a fox in the brush during a snowfall. I had tried many times without success. On this late
afternoon, I was walking up and down the beach access paths and spotted this fox in the distance. It
stopped for a moment to check me out before moving on. My long telephoto lens made it possible to
capture the moment.

The eyes of a fox can be mesmerizing. When photographing a fox straight on, you can see why. This young
fox was resting and watching me intently. I clicked off several shots and was pleased with the stare I
received back.

I never get tired of photographing foxes. They are such beautiful animals. Here a red fox in the park rests
under some brush. The big yawn shows its impressive teeth. They are gentle and may seem friendly, but
should be treated as wild animals. Never feed the foxes, they need to keep their hunting abilities sharp.
