The Emmy-nomi- nated writer/producer helms four of the biggest super- hero shows on TV today, and has legions of fans itching for more (which, by the looks of things, they'll get, as Fox ordered a pilot episode of Berlanti's "Black Light- ning" last month). After starting with "Arrow" in 2012, the "Berlantiverse" ex- panded in 2014 with "The Flash" and again last year with "Super- girl." Earlier this year, a fourth su- perhero project premiered, and now, after a quick season 2 pick- up, the newest iteration of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" is set to premiere Thursday, Oct. 13, on CW. Starring Caity Lotz ("The Ma- chine," 2013), Arthur Darvill ("Doctor Who"), Victor Garber ("Alias") and Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns," 2006), among others, "Legends" focuses on a rag-tag group of heroes and villains who need to work togeth- er to save Earth from utter de- struction. After a fairly successful first season, season 2 is shaping up to be bigger and better, with the promise of many new faces and even a massive crossover lat- er this fall. "We're telling one cohesive story [for the crossover]," Berlanti told IndieWire last month."'Supergirl' will partici- pate, but the storyline doesn't ac- tively begin there. There are some characters who show up in her episode, but the story begins with 'The Flash' episode and goes to 'Arrow' and 'Legends of Tomor- row.' ... Just today I was holding the three scripts back-to-back — that's 180 pages of material. It's a three-hour story, almost a minise- ries." Before then, though, fans of "Legends" will be introduced (and reintroduced, to some ex- tent) to a smorgasbord of new characters, many of whom are members of the Justice Society of America — the predecessor to the Justice League — and the Le- gion of Doom. Patrick J. Adams ("Suits") was introduced in the season 1 finale of "Legends" as Rex Tyler, a.k.a. Hourman, and told Sara Lance, Ray Palmer and the other Legends about the JSA. He returns in the season 2 premiere.
