The Dialogue We want to hear from you. Visit vegasinc.com to post comments to stories. On Richard N. Velotta's July 2 VEGAS INC column about tourism taglines to promote Nevada ("Catch-all phrase: Rebranding the state not as easy as coming up with clever word play"): I travel quite a bit and I don't really know of any catchy slogans for the 49 other states. And I wouldn't care. The whole branding slogan thing for both Nevada and Las Vegas is stupid. This is a desperate place trying to do something to gain attention. If this place wants to be taken seriously and reclaim itself as a great place to visit, start by cleaning up the Strip and get the smut peddlers off. Put an end to the long-hauling. Bring some modern and exciting entertainment to the town. Your best marketing tool is the voice of a happy visitor. — TeamSGI (Daniel Jackson) On David McGrath Schwartz's July 1 vegasinc.com story about Gov. Brian Sandoval casting doubt on whether Nevada will expand its Medicaid pro- gram ("Nevada must confront decision of whether to expand Medicaid"): T he governor should not expand the Medicaid program. The costs will sky- rocket within the next few years. Three years goes by quickly and the state will have this horrible liability to provide Medicaid to thousands of individuals. It is a bad idea since money will be di- verted from education and transpor- tation. Medicaid is widely abused and there is no need for Nevada to follow California. — NVFisherman I believe the majority of Republicans need to have their vision checked, as TUNE IN VEGAS INC TV 4 MGM, Mandalay Bay and the Orleans did not come to the taxpayers asking them to help pay for their arenas. Why should Caesars be treated any differ- ent? — vegaslee VEGAS INC FILE On Joe Schoenmann's July 1 vegasinc. com story about the issue of regulat- ing tavern/slot parlors like Dotty's ("Proposed ordinance change brings contentious Dotty's issue back to fore"): D and they know it. The ordinance should be changed to limit the number of tav- erns or bars one business can own in the county. Dotty's is a casino. It's just spread out to look like a local bar or tavern. — express445 With the exception of NASCAR, box- ing, UFC and mixed martial arts, there are no leagues that will allow a team to play here. Not basketball, not base- ball nor football. So what we'll have is a taxpayer-funded (0.9 percent tax) stadium we really don't need, holding otty's is purposely skirting the law music events and tournaments, and sitting idle the rest of the time without a professional franchise for a tenant. Essentially every hotel on the south end of the strip has an event arena. We don't need any more. — Xtlman (Mark Dunton) Regardless of the changes, Dotty's applied for and was granted licenses based on its business model. You can- Caesar's is betting on the future. A good decision on its part. It will pay off. — FreedomRadio (Joan Respondi) ? ? ? ? ? ! The innovator they all seem to be shortsighted. Good managers know how to see into the fu- ture and how actions today affect the future. Preventive care and catching illness- es early will save billions. Billions will be saved in supporting government- subsidized hospitals. Employee sick time will be reduced, saving billions in productivity. — Bill_Gordon (William Gordon) not change the law ex post facto. Any changes made should be for future li- censes, and current licenses should be grandfathered in. — jaquekeno On Cy Ryan's June 29 vegasinc.com story about a proposed 18,000-seat sports-entertainment arena on the Strip ("Backers of Caesars arena say Supreme Court overlooked facts, law"): I Pick 'Em Get smart Power tweets Overheard Done Deal have no problem with another arena being built in this valley. Might be nice to have one that is not in the southern area, but as long as it benefits one company, that company should be paying to build it.
