Hands-on circulation training Road Show for Reporters Reporters gathered in Indianapolis in June for the annual seminar geared just for them. This year's workshop focused on covering "Elections, Budgets and Other Stormy Assignments." Speakers included Steve Key, HSPA executive director and general coun- sel (top), and Pam Coleman, auditor for Steuben County (right). Fall circulation training returns in Indiana with a new oneday work shop format. The Indiana Circulation Executive Association and the HSPA Foundation partner again to offer "Best Practices in Circulation" on Friday, Sept. 21, at The Indianapolis Star's Pulliam Production Center. Steve Wagenlander, one of the industry's top circulation speakers & NAA's 2010 Circulation Executive of the Year, will present the daylong, highly interactive workshop that covers methods to increase revenue, grow audience, explore delivery partnerships and improve customer service. To allow more HSPA members to participate, both ICEA and the HSPA Foundation will support the training financially. Now the committee will weigh the information and make a recommendation to the full HSPA board about whether any projects should proceed and with whom as a partner. The creation of a statewide digital archive of Indiana newspapers would create a tool for reporters and editors to quickly gather background information for stories and create some potential revenue streams. This would be the first step to creating an electronic newspaper "museum" for papers in Indiana, West said. "I am excited to see where this opportunity takes our organization," she said. "I believe all members will find value in content management. Our goal now is to partner with the company that meets your needs." An HSPAdirected clipping service would bring an addi tional revenue source to the association and possibly its members.
