Chisholm, who was subjected to criticism throughout the campaign for his policies, essentially enters a new four-year term in office. The Democratic candidate does not face a Republican challenger in the fall general election. The vote total, according to unofficial results Tuesday night from the Milwaukee County Election Commission's office: ✓ John Chisholm (inc.) 51,469 65% Verona Swanigan 27,570 35% At press deadline on Wednesday, the vote total was unofficial, pending a review by can- vassers. Milwaukee County's district attorney race garnered attention in the months leading up to the primary. Swanigan's supporters poured money into her campaign and took aim at deci- sions made under Chisholm's watch. Swanigan, who could not be reached for comment after the polls closed, asserted Chisholm's decisions reveal a "soft on crime" approach toward sentencing criminals.
