Paul Bouraxis is to serve two years in prison, his wife, Freida Bouraxis, will spend one year in prison and their son Andreas Bouraxis will spend six months behind bars. Paul Bouraxis owned Bouraxis Limited, through which he operat- ed the fast-food restaurant Omega Burger, 7041 S. 27 St., Franklin. Andreas Bouraxis owned El Fuego Limited, 909 W. Layton Ave., Milwaukee, and El Beso Mexican Restaurante, 5030 S. 74th St., Greenfield. Freida Bouraxis did bookkeep- ing at the three restaurants and instructed others how to keep the records and books, according to a U.S. District Court-Eastern District of Wisconsin document. Also named in the complaint is Reiad "Ray" Awadallah of Franklin, a son-in-law of Paul and Frieda Bouraxis and general man- ager of El Fuego, but he has not reached a deal with the U.S. Department of Justice. Federal agents were tipped off about the fraud in 2011 and began investigating the family and their operations and found a second set of fraudulent records after obtain- ing search warrants in 2012, the Department of Justice said. The defendants did not include cash receipts for money they skimmed from the restaurants and created other records for their accountants from January 2007 to at least September 2012, according to court documents. The Bouraxis family also understated the wages paid to employees and the weekly payroll taxes to the IRS. While they used electronic point-of-sale systems at El Fuego and El Beso, they did not supply those records to their accountants, but also maintained handwritten records that kept accurate track of the income and payroll taxes, the court documents revealed.
