MYRON THOMAS "MIKE" RHYNE Myron Thomas "Mike" Rhyne, age 69 of Ellenboro, passed away June 8, 2016. Born September 20, 1946 in Rutherford County to the late Joseph Lamar Rhyne & Elizabeth Byers Griffin Rhyne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Frasheur Rhyne, a sister, Betty Blair Rhyne Owens, & 3 broth- ers, William Q. Rhyne, Joseph L. "Joe" Rhyne & Robert F. "Bob" Rhyne. Mike was a 1964 Graduate of East Rutherford High School. He served 2 years with the US Army in Korea. He completed a Bachelors & Masters in Textile Engineering at NC State University. He worked for 33 years as a textile engineer primarily with Huyck-Formex & Weavexx based out of Wake Forest. Near the end of his career he worked in regional sales across the Southeast. He returned to Rutherford County in 1998 & became very active in the community. Mike was serving his second term as an Alderman for the town of Ellenboro. He was organizer of the Ellenboro Depot Museum. He also served as organizer of Big Day in Ellenboro, Ellenboro Fiddler's Convention & was a member of the Ellenboro Fair Committee. He was an active member of the Rutherford County Sons of the American Revolution. Surviving are 2 sons, Rev. Michael L. Rhyne, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America & wife Karen of Hollidaysburg, PA & Erik Trevor Rhyne of Ellenboro; 3 grandchildren; 2 brothers, John Griffin Rhyne of Mooresville, & James Chivas Rhyne of Ellenboro & several nieces & nephews. Funeral services were held in The Padgett & King Chapel with Rev. Michael L. Rhyne, Rev. Dr. Bobby Gantt & Rev. Jonathan Schnibben officiating. A family commit- tal service was held in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Padgett & King Mortuary is serving the family. SUSAN WALTERS FOX Susan Walters Fox, age 43, of Forest City, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Born on Sunday, March 4, 1973 in Lakeland, Florida, she was a daughter to Linda Carlton Walters of Forest City and the late Jerry Walters. She worked in textiles for many years and was of the Baptist faith. Susan loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, James and Lois Walters and grandfather, Woodrow Kelley. Besides her mother, survivors include one son, Jeremy "Drew" Walters; daughter, Shayla Heffner; grandmother, Dorothy Kelley all of Forest City; brother, James Walters and wife, Kerri of Rutherfordton; one granddaughter and niece, Emily Walters. A celebration of Susan's life was conducted at her mother's house. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements. REBECCA ANN VAUGHN Rebecca Ann Vaughn, age 71 of Forest City passed away Monday, June 6, 2016. She was born on August 12, 1944 in Cumberland County, NC and was a daughter of the late Chester S. Woods, Sr. and Willie Lou Jones Woods. Rebecca was a member of the Adaville Baptist Church and the widow of John E. Vaughn, Sr. While traveling with her military husband and children, Becky went back to college and received her nursing degree. She worked for many years at Belk's Department Store in the Tri-City Mall where she retired. Survivors include a son, John E. Vaughn, Jr. and wife, Danielle of Forest City; a daughter, Debbie V. Davis and husband, Mitch of Laurens, SC; a broth- er, Chester S. Wood Jr. of Colorado; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and neph- ews. Funeral services were held in The Padgett and King Chapel with the Reverend Jonathan Cobb officiating. Interment followed in the Adaville Baptist Church Cemetery. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. LINDA A. SHUEMAKER Linda A. Shuemaker, age 54, of Ellenboro, passed away Thursday, June 09, 2016. Born in Oneida County, New York on July 05, 1961, she was the daughter of Melford Earl Dousharm & Dorothy Katherine Hojdasz Dousharm of New York. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family & friends. She loved watching game shows & being around her cats. In addition to her par- ents, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, George F. Shuemaker; 1 daughter, Shannon Shuemaker McHenry (Michael); 1 son, Gregory Alan Shuemaker; 1 brother, Daryl Dousharm; 1 sister, Elaine Dousharm Gonzalez (Jose Williams); & 2 grandchildren. There are no services planned at this time. Chad L. Beam Funeral Licensee is assisting the family. JACKIE LEE GREEN SFC Jackie Lee Green, US Army Ret., 69 of Ellenboro passed away June 8, 2016. A US Army Veteran serv- ing in Vietnam & was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a loyal devoted family man, a retired deputy with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department, loved gun collecting, fishing & boating. He was the son of the late William F. & Katie Moore Green. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Irmtraud Hillenbrand Green of the home, 5 children; Michelle Green of Monroe, Theresa Cooper (Paul) of Southern Pines, Clarissa Cabrera (Daniel) of Temple TX., Frankie Green of Ellenboro & Ryan Green of Kings Mountain. 1 brother Johnny Greene of Minnesota, 8 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his par- ents he was preceded in death by a sister Vivian Sanders. Graveside services were con- ducted at the NC Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC with Military Rites. NOW Serving Cleveland and Rutherford Counties Rutherford Outdoor Coalition held its annual Broad River Spring Sweep in May. Thirty-eight volunteers participated in the event, which included the clean up of four sections of the Broad River in Rutherford County and from Lake Houser to the Broad River Greenway in Cleveland County. More than 1,100 pounds of trash was removed from the river, including 19 tires, two 55-gallon plastic drums, hundreds of cans and a TV set. The next clean up on the Broad River will be Sept. 24. Rutherford Outdoor Coalition also leads many group river fl oats as well. The next river fl oat will be June 25 from Grays Road to Coxe Road in Rutherfordton.
