Responsibilities include writing feature stories, game coverage, taking photographs, putting together the Freeman sports section, handling calls, copy editing stories and paginating pages. The Assistant Sports Editor works on deadline several nights a week. The ideal candidate would have a college degree, prior sports experience at a newspaper and excellent writing, photography and page design skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills are required. Knowledge of AP style is required. Proficiency with QuarkXPress is a plus.
