TV Media Weekly | May 14 - 20, 2016 Sunday morning | 7 By Andrew Warren TV Media Mike, Molly & memories: It's said that all good things must come to an end, and that old say- ing couldn't be more true about sitcoms. The final episode of "Mike & Molly," CBS's multi-camera comedy that's currently in its sixth season, considered by many to be "one of the good ones," airs Mon- day, May 16, on the eye network. After a disappointingly short fi- nal season — it's only had 13 epi- sodes — the show's final send-off is a special one-hour episode, a tribute to its many fans. Starring Billy Gardell ("Bad Santa," 2003) and Melissa McCa- rthy ("Spy," 2015) as the titular married couple who met at an Overeaters' Anonymous meeting, "Mike & Molly" has earned itself a loyal fan following. Luckily for those fans, the show's cancelation wasn't sud- den: the cast and crew knew it was coming as early as last December. That's given the writers and pro- ducers a whole season to build up to the final episode. In fact, Gardell has all but promised that "Mike & Molly" fans won't be disappointed by the show's final send-off. In a season that's been filled with hints about babies — from a homeless dog being brought home by Mike (that ends up test- ing Molly's maternal instincts) to consideration of a potential adoption — fans and critics have speculated that there may be some big news for the couple in the final episode. It also won't be the end of the line for Gardell and McCarthy's careers. Gardell is a successful standup comedian who's done some voice acting ("Phineas and Ferb"), while McCarthy's starring in this summer's blockbuster "Ghostbusters" reboot, just the latest film in her successful Holly- wood career that's also included 2016's hit "The Boss" and "Gilmore Girls." So while these two lovebirds might be saying "farewell" one last time, the actors behind Molly and Mike are definitely sticking around. "Mike & Molly's" special one-hour series finale airs Mon- day, May 16, on CBS. Military shakeup: There's been a bit of a shakeup in an up- coming History series. Joe Man- ganiello ("Magic Mike XXL," 2015) had signed on for History's new straight-to-series drama Stars on Screen 05/15 7 AM 7:30 8 AM 8:30 9 AM 9:30 10 AM 10:30 11 AM 11:30 12 PM 12:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 Paid Program A.
