They are the most realistic decoys that I know of on the market. I bought a hen and Jake. (A Jake is a young gobbler for those who may not know.) I used them at the end of last year and during every hunt this year. It's amazing how effective they can be and how they can draw the attention away from the hunter which gives us a lot more leeway when it comes to movement. I think the best way to use these decoys is in the tandem I've described. When the Jake is with a hen, a gobbler is more apt to come to the decoys. He does that in order to fi ght the Jake and take the hen. If the hen decoy is by itself, nature takes over and the Tom simply waits on the hen as nature has designed it. If the Jake is alone, the gobbler has no reason to waste his time fi ghting. But if the Jake is trying to take his hen, the fi ght is on! I saw this up close last year. Just before I put an arrow in a nice gobbler, he viciously attacked my Jake decoy. (I love when a good plan comes together.) This year I spent over an hour waiting and watching a gobbler in the distance. Eventually he strutted over to my decoy layout as well. He ended up on my dinner plate. Each time that I have set this decoy tandem up, I have had success. I love it. I've been so impressed with my new decoys that I have won- dered if there is anything in my own life that has me fooled. I mean is there anything that I am convinced is real but when I really think about it, it's not? I believe there is. In fact, I believe there is in a lot of areas. But in order to believe this, I fi rst have to fi rst believe I have an enemy. If I have no enemy, these life decoys are harmless. They may fool me at fi rst but I would soon fi nd out they are what they are. A recent survey discovered that only about 40% of Chris- tians believed in a real evil enemy called Satan. That means that most Christians will think his decoys are harmless. It also means they will never know the truth until it is too late. Why do I believe Satan is real? Because Jesus did. And when you look at those who wrote about Jesus, even outside the Bible, there is no evidence of his testimony being anything but true. High School Baseball R-S Central (12-2) and East Rutherford (14-5) are deadlocked for the No. 1 spot from the 2A side of the SMAC. Both have an 8-4 SMAC record, but Central holds the head-to-head advantage right now. Both teams have been very diffi cult to gauge this season, but either way, both will make the playoffs. The two play each other May 3rd at East. Chase has the third seed and only needs to win once more to at least secure a postseason spot. A conference win would be better or a Draughn and East Burke SMAC loss should get them in as well. High School Softball Not only are they fi ghting for the No. 1 SMAC spot from the 2A side, but they are also fi ghting for the conference championship. Yes, I am talking about R-S Central and East Rutherford with East holding the advantage. Central has won fi ve in a row, East has taken six straight wins. Mark your calendars for May 3rd. The two clash at East that night. East Rutherford (13-3, 11-1) could also get a challenge from Crest down the stretch since the fi rst meeting went into extra innings. R-S Central (13-2, 10-1) could have a challenge from East Burke on the road down the stretch. The Lady Hilltoppers are led by their pitching (Haley White and Madison Crain), but they can hit the ball as well and scrap up runs. The Lady Cavs are led by their pitching (Savannah Davis) and defense (Jordan Gray). Despite having hitting woes at the beginning of the season, they have improved every week. High School Girls Soccer R-S Central (11-2) has already wrapped up the No. 1 2A seed from the SMAC. The Lady Hilltoppers have been an unbelievable scoring machine. Kenley Wilson and Morgan Hill have 37 goals between the two of them and eight Lady Hilltoppers are legitimate threats to do so at any given time. East Rutherford (7-7) will get the No. 2 seed in the 2A SMAC, but they do have a chance to gain a four game win streak and tie the record for number of wins in a season…with 11. Winning four in a row would also give them the most conference wins in a season. All four games on the schedule are winnable, but they do face R-S Central, who beat them by one goal earlier this season. Paris Baker leads them with 10 goals, Emily Elgin and Abigail Smith each have nine. Thomas Jefferson (7-5, 5-4) is in a tough 1A conference and they sit fourth among the eight teams. Highland Tech sits two games back, but should the Lady Gryphons beat the Lady Rams again, they should be in. However, they would have to go on the road and be a 25-30th seed in the playoffs. As for the NFL, Josh Norman is no longer a Carolina Panther. As a young guy, I get it. He wanted more money than the Panthers were to give, so he had other teams shop for him. He didn't have to travel too far as he landed with the Redskins. Right now, Washington isn't a Super Bowl caliber team, many consider Carolina to be so. After this acquisition, Washington helped itself, but it doesn't solve their rush defense, linebacking core issues, or pathetic run game. Still, you wonder how Carolina is going to do in trying to fi ll Norman's shoes. Just for thought, the NFL draft is this week April 28-30. And fi nally, Tony Stewart was back in a race car this past weekend at Richmond. A dune buggy accident left him injured for four months and put his NASCAR farewell tour on a two-month hiatus. Stewart seemed pretty sharp to me, staying among the top 20 all day before fi nishing 19th. If not for a tire issue, he might have fi nished better. He is already back to himself again. Smoke was already fi ned by NASCAR before even racing this past weekend due to giving his opinion on the lug nut rule in place this season. Stewart disagreed with only having four out of fi ve lug nuts on each tire. He thinks all fi ve should be secured and it's ridiculous to put way more stress on the crews to have quicker stops versus being safer. Well said, Tony. Well said. Wildlife Resources Commission reminds turkey hunters to follow regulations, particularly those that involve baiting. It is unlawful to take wild birds with the use or aid of bait, which includes any grain, fruit or other bait. Additionally, no wild turkey may be taken from an area in which bait has been placed until 10 days after the bait has been consumed or otherwise removed. "Anyone found unlawfully taking a wild turkey will be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor," said Lt. Sam Craft of the Commission. "This illegal activity would result in a fi ne and a two-year license suspension. If you are hunting in an area where bait has been placed, the best course of action is to remove it immediately and hunt somewhere else for a minimum of 10 days." Other turkey hunting regulatory considerations: Report harvests using the Big Game Report Card. Use of pistols, rifl es or black powder rifl es is prohibited. Dogs are not allowed for hunting wild turkey. Electronic or recorded calls are not allowed for hunting wild turkey. Regulations and restrictions on turkey hunting, including information on youth season, are available in the 2015-16 Inland Fishing, Hunting and Trapping Regulations Digest, beginning on page 56, and available online at www.ncwildlife. org.
